Holafly is the clear winner of the 2026 awards, taking home 7 out of 10 categories: 24/7 support via chat and WhatsApp, unlimited data in over 200 destinations, and one of the best apps in the industry.
Mobimatter comes out on top in three specific categories: prices per GB up to 80% cheaper, unrestricted free hotspots, and crypto payments accepted. It’s a marketplace that resells plans from about ten providers (eSIMGo, Sparks, Airalo, Ubigi…).
Two things to watch out for: Holafly’s “unlimited” plan is subject to a Fair Usage Policy that throttles speeds after 2 to 5 GB per day, and the hotspot is capped at 500 MB per day. At Mobimatter, customer service involves two intermediaries, and refunds can take anywhere from 10 to 45 days.
Choose based on your profile : Holafly for short stays, multi-country trips, or heavy data users. Mobimatter for long stays with moderate usage and a need for laptop tethering.
An alternative to consider: —a travel eSIM like voilà—offers competitive rates, unlimited hotspot access on all plans, no blocked apps, and WhatsApp support.
Before going into detail, here is a summary of the results for each category tested:
Final score: Holafly wins in 7 out of 10 categories—clearly dominating the criteria that matter most when traveling (support, reliability, UX). Mobimatter wins only in price per GB, hotspot, and crypto payments.
Mobimatter is structurally cheaper than Holafly because its marketplace model pits about ten eSIM providers against each other. This is the only major factor where Mobimatter has a clear advantage.
Holafly offers a simple plan: you choose the number of days (from 1 to 90), and you get unlimited data for the entire period. For travelers who want a regular subscription, Holafly Plans offers monthly plans with 10 GB for $39.90/month, 25 GB for $49.90/month, or unlimited data for $64.90/month.
Mobimatter offers fixed-data plans (1 GB, 5 GB, 20 GB, etc.) with durations ranging from 7 to 365 days, depending on the provider. Prices start very low: a 15 GB UK plan for $13.49, a 20 GB Italy plan for $14.99, and a 10 GB Europe bundle for $11.99.
| Destination (30 days) | Holafly | Mobimatter | Economy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Italy | $74.90 (unlimited) | $14.99 (20 GB) | -80% |
| United States | ~$74.90 (unlimited) | ~$35 (50 GB) | -53% |
| United Kingdom | Similar price | $13.49 (15 GB) | Variable |
| Multiple European countries | ~$75 (unlimited) | $11.99 (10 GB) | -84% |
| Japan: 90 days | $225+ | $45.99 (60 GB) | -80% |
| 1-Day Pass | $6.90 (unlimited) | Virtually absent | Holafly wins |
The detail that makes all the difference: if you use very little data (under 25 GB/month) or are going on a short trip (1–3 days), the best value option may change. Holafly offers a 1-day plan for $6.90 that Mobimatter can’t match with its fixed-volume plans, which require longer commitments.

Mobimatter is designed for long-term use (30–90 days) with moderate data usage. Holafly is designed for short-term use (1–3 days) and heavy data users.
On paper, Holafly and Mobimatter offer comparable coverage (over 200 destinations for Holafly, over 190 for Mobimatter). But the quality of service is very different.
Holafly operates in over 200 destinations with its own exclusive plans, negotiated directly with local carriers. The brand ensures a consistent quality experience: whether you’re booking in Japan, Brazil, or South Africa, you’re dealing with the same Holafly. A single global plan covers 113 destinations simultaneously.
Mobimatter covers over 190 destinations, but through about ten different resellers. Each destination has its own providers, its own carriers, and its own terms and conditions. An eSIMGo "Mobimatter USA" plan will not offer the same quality as a Sparks "Mobimatter USA" plan.
| Destination reviewed | Holafly (average Mbps) | Mobile data (average Mbps) |
|---|---|---|
| France | 45–65 | 35–70 (depending on the retailer) |
| United States | 50–80 | 40–75 |
| Japan | 55–90 | 30–85 |
| Thailand | 40–60 | 25–55 |
| Brazil | 30–50 | 20–45 |
Network comparison: : Holafly offers more consistent performance. Mobimatter may be faster with certain premium plans (Sparks, eSIMGo) or slower with others (budget resellers). For travelers who don’t want to compare 50 different plans, Holafly comes out on top.
Holafly for predictability and consistent quality. Score: 200+ destinations under the same responsible brand.
This is the main reason why travelers choose Holafly. The brand has built its entire value proposition around unlimited duration.
All Holafly standard plans offer unlimited data. You pay by the day, not by the gigabyte. This simplicity is what appeals to millions of travelers every year, especially non-tech-savvy tourists who don’t want to keep track of their data usage.
Mobimatter offers only a handful of unlimited plans, all from specific resellers. The marketplace’s business model is based on fixed-volume pricing, which allows it to offer low prices but requires users to accurately estimate their usage.

Holafly by a long shot. Unlimited data is a built-in feature available in over 200 destinations, whereas Mobimatter barely offers it.
When it comes to hotspots, Mobimatter clearly has the edge. This is one of the few areas where Holafly objectively lags behind.
Holafly's standard unlimited plans include a tethering limit of around 500 MB per day. Once that limit is reached, the hotspot stops working until the next day. For phone-only use (GPS, messaging, web browsing, social media), this limit isn't a problem. For a remote worker connecting a laptop, 500 MB can be used up in just 30 minutes of video conferencing.
At Mobimatter, since our plans offer a fixed data allowance, there are no contractual restrictions on tethering. The gigabytes are yours to use as you like, whether on your phone, laptop, or tablet. This is especially valuable for digital nomads, teams on the go, or travelers who need to connect multiple devices.
Mobimatter, of course. Free Wi-Fi on all data plans, with no daily data limit.
Both services comply with standard mobile security protocols (carrier network encryption, no storage of communication content). The real privacy concern when traveling is app blocking .
Holafly does not impose any blocking measures of its own, but certain restrictions may be imposed by local partner carriers. For example, travelers have reported slow TikTok speeds in India, or certain French banking apps being inaccessible outside the EU. Holafly does not contractually guarantee that apps will not be blocked.
At Mobimatter, restrictions depend on the underlying provider. Some eSIMGo plans block TikTok by default in Europe, while other Airalo plans may restrict access to Asian banking apps, and so on. The platform does not control these restrictions and does not always disclose them at the time of purchase.

It's a tie, with Holafly having a slight edge in terms of traceability (since it has a single supplier, making it easier to audit).
Both services support streaming and video conferencing, but they have very different features.
Unlimited data = you can watch Netflix, YouTube, and Twitch as much as you want, until you hit the FUP . In practice, 2–3 hours of HD streaming per day is plenty. Beyond that (continuous 4K streaming, massive cloud downloads), speeds slow down and the experience deteriorates.
You pay for a set amount of data. With a 50 GB plan valid for 30 days, you can watch about 50–60 hours of Netflix in HD before you run out. Then you’ll need to top up. The advantage: no FUP throttling—you keep your full speeds until the very last bit.
| Use cases | Holafly | Mobimatter |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour of Zoom per day | OK (under FUP) | ~150 MB used |
| 3 hours of Zoom per day | Possible FUP | ~450 MB used |
| 4-Hour HD Webinar | FUP is almost certain | ~600 MB used |
| Laptop tethering | Limited to 500 MB per day | Free |
It's a toss-up. Holafly for moderate to heavy streaming on a phone. Mobimatter for professional video calls with laptop tethering.
Overall, Holafly is faster and more stable than Mobimatter , particularly in mature markets (Western Europe, North America, Japan, and Korea).
Holafly negotiates directly with premium carriers (NTT Docomo in Japan, T-Mobile in the United States, Vodafone in the United Kingdom, and SK Telecom in South Korea). You have access to the best local networks, no matter where you’re traveling. The Fair Usage Policy (FUP) may slow down heavy users, but the base speed is excellent.
Mobimatter's speed depends entirely on the underlying provider. A Sparks plan will offer good speeds, as will an eSIMGo plan, but other lesser-known resellers may deliver poor performance. Without trying it out, there's no way to know in advance. Trustpilot reviews frequently mention "fluctuating speeds" with Mobimatter, depending on the plan chosen.

Holafly for predictability and quality.
In terms of customer support, Holafly blows Mobimatter out of the water. This is the area where the gap is widest, and it’s also the one that matters most when things go wrong while traveling.
Holafly offers 24/7 live chat accessible via the app and website, with support available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. A dedicated WhatsApp channel allows you to contact support even when your eSIM isn't working (using your physical SIM card). Typical response times range from a few minutes to a few hours.
Mobimatter operates using an email ticket system and an automated "troubleshooter." There is no live chat. If you encounter a problem, you can submit a ticket, which will be forwarded through Mobimatter to the actual service provider. Resolution times range from 24 hours for simple cases to several weeks for complex issues.
| Holafly | Mobimatter |
|---|---|
| A unified policy across the board | Depends on the underlying retailer |
| Refund if not activated within the specified time frame | Terms and conditions vary by package |
| Holafly Direct Decision | Mobimatter + reseller = 2 intermediaries |
| Typical turnaround time: 3–7 days | Typical turnaround time: 1–3 weeks |
| Multilingual | Primary Support |
Holafly by a landslide. 24/7 multilingual chat versus email tickets—that’s a difference of two generations of customer support.
Holafly has one of the best eSIM apps on the market. Mobimatter is effective but cluttered.
Streamlined app, guided onboarding, step-by-step setup guides for each device (iOS, Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi, other Android devices), and a downloadable PDF guide for offline use. Average ratings of 4.7/5 on the App Store and 4.6/5 on Google Play. Navigation is intuitive, even for first-time eSIM buyers.
The app is technically sound, but cluttered because it has to display up to 50 plans per destination. For an experienced user who knows what they’re looking for, it’s efficient. For a first-time buyer, however, the experience quickly becomes confusing: 10 U.S. plans offering 5 GB at different prices, with different durations, and from different resellers.
Holafly, clearly. The UX is designed for travelers, not for eSIM power users.
After comparing several categories, Holafly comes out on top in most of them—with a clear lead in terms of device support, app, unlimited data, network quality, refund policy, consistent coverage, and overall user experience. Mobimatter only wins in terms of gross price per GB, unlimited hotspot access, and crypto payments.
For the vast majority of travelers (90% of users), Holafly is the best choice in 2026. The higher cost compared to Mobimatter is justified by the quality of the experience: a truly end-to-end responsible provider, 24/7 multilingual support, one of the best apps in the industry, and unlimited data in over 200 destinations.
Mobimatter is a good option in two specific cases: if you’re a budget traveler who keeps your data usage under 25 GB/month AND you need a free hotspot for a laptop. If both conditions are met, you’ll actually save money compared to Holafly. Otherwise, the extra cost of Holafly is worth it.
