How to check your device's eSIM compatibility in 4 steps

Before buying a travel eSIM plan, take 2 minutes to confirm your phone is compatible. This checklist works for iPhone, Android, tablets and smartwatches.

  1. Step 1

    Identify your exact model

The marketing name isn't enough: regional variants differ. Go to Settings → General → About → Model Number (iPhone) or Settings → About phone (Android). Note the reference (e.g. A3258 for iPhone 17 US).

  2. Step 2

    Check your OS version

eSIM requires iOS 12.1 or newer on iPhone and Android 9+ on most Android phones. On Windows, Surface Pro X and newer devices support eSIM on Windows 10 or 11. Update before you start.

  3. Step 3

Make sure your device is unlocked

A phone bought on a carrier installment plan is often locked to that network during the contract. Request a carrier unlock: it's free and required to activate a third-party eSIM.

  4. Step 4

    Use our free compatibility checker

Type your model name into the tool at the top of this page: you'll land on its detail page with the number of supported eSIMs, regional variants and a step-by-step install guide.

What is an eSIM-compatible device?

An eSIM-compatible device has an embedded SIM chip soldered directly onto the motherboard. Unlike a physical SIM, an eSIM can't be removed: it's activated by scanning a QR code or through an app. Since 2018, Apple, Samsung and Google have pushed the technology mainstream, joined by Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola and most recent manufacturers. In 2026, 480+ models are officially supported: phones, tablets, smartwatches, 5G laptops and even some connected objects.

Which phones support eSIM?

iPhones support eSIM starting with iPhone XS (2018). From iPhone 14 onwards, US models are even eSIM-only (no physical slot). On the Android side, Samsung ships eSIM on Galaxy S20+ and up, the mid-range A series from the A54, all Z Flip / Z Fold, and the Note 20. Google Pixel has supported eSIM since Pixel 3. Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola, Nothing, Honor and Huawei also have eSIM-ready models in 2026.

How can I check without a tool?

Three quick methods. 1. Dial #06# (preceded by the star key) on your keypad: if an EID identifier appears, your device supports eSIM.
2. On iPhone, go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
3. On Android, open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM.
If the option shows up, your phone is ready.
