Option 3: Go to your phone settings to check eSIM compatibility.

If you prefer to check directly from your smartphone, eSIM compatibility can be found in the settings. Here's how to do this depending on your device.

Check eSIM compatibility on Android (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, etc.)

Follow these 4 simple steps:

  • Open the Settings on your phone.
  • Go to Connections or Network & Internet.
  • Open SIM Card Manager or SIM Cards.
  • Look for a menu item labeled eSIM, Virtual SIM, Digital SIM card, or Add eSIM.

If the eSIM option appears: your phone is compatible.
If nothing appears: your smartphone probably does not support eSIM.

Check eSIM compatibility on iPhone

On iPhone, the method is even simpler:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Go to Cell data.
  • Look for an option titled Add a cell plan, Add an eSIM plan, or Add a SIM card.

If one of these buttons appears: your iPhone is eSIM compatible.

Option 4: Dial #06# to check eSIM compatibility

There is a universal method for checking eSIM compatibility: dial the code #06# as if you were going to call a number.

  • Open your telephone keypad.
  • Type: #06#
  • A window will appear displaying various technical information.

If you see a number EID (Embedded Identity Document), your phone is 100% eSIM compatible.
If no EID appears, your smartphone does not support the technology.

FAQ: How do I know if my phone is eSIM compatible?

If your phone is not originally eSIM compatible, you can use an external eSIM adapter. This small module fits into your SIM card slot and acts as a bridge between your smartphone and a digital SIM card. It therefore allows you to activate an eSIM even on a device that does not have a built-in eSIM module.

Warning:
- Not all adapters are reliable, so do your research before buying.
- Compatibility varies depending on the brand and model.
- Some adapters require a dedicated app to manage the eSIM.
Apart from this external solution, there is no software-based way to make a phone eSIM-compatible.

Older phones, as well as some entry-level models, do not support eSIM. Here are the main categories that are not compatible:

• The majority of smartphones before 2018
• Certain models Samsung A, M, J
• Most entry-level Xiaomi Redmi models
• Huawei without Google services (limited compatibility)
• iPhones prior to the iPhone XS / XR
• Older flip phones/feature phones

If your device does not display an EID (#06#) or does not offer any eSIM options in the settings, it is not compatible.

Your phone may not support eSIM for three main reasons:

• No built-in eSIM module → Some manufacturers reserve this technology for premium models.
• Phone software version or region → Some smartphones are eSIM-compatible in one country but disabled in another (e.g., Samsung US vs. Samsung EU).
• Model too old → eSIM technology is recent. Devices released before 2018 generally do not support it.

If you do not see the eSIM option in the settings and no EID appears, your phone is not designed to use an eSIM.
